I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I

Consent

REPORT ON CITY'S SPRING EVENTS
By: Jo Thieling, Deputy City Clerk

As you are aware, the City of Ramsey is host to a number of spring events, including a
Pet Clinic, Recycling Day, Tree Sale and Environmental Expo. This year, all the events
were held on Saturday, April 29, 2000.

Following is a brief summary of activity related to each event.

Pet Clinic:

The 2000 Pet Clinic was again held in the Police Department garage from 8:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. Reduced cost vaccinations were provided by AMVET of Elk River.

357 rabies vaccinations were given to dogs and cats.
We do not have a count on the Distemper vaccinations as there was no administrative fee added onto it.

The administrative charge placed on the rabies vaccinations by the City amounted to
$1,071 ($3 per vaccination). A check in that amount was received from the veterinarian
clinic on May 5, 2000.

The City also offers discounted pet licenses on the day of the Clinic. This year, 77 cat
licenses were issued and 282 dog licenses, for a total income of $1,259.

The Pet Clinic is well received by the Ramsey residents. They appreciate the discounted
rates for vaccinations and licenses. The discounts provide a win-win situation for the
City, its residents and the pets!!

Recycling Day:

The 2000 Spring Recycling Drop-off Day was very well attended. In four hours, the
amount collected was as follows:

* Appliances 169 units (13.65 tons)
* Scrap Metal 2.47 tons
* Tires 590 tires (6.32 tons)
· Steel Rims 1.74 tons
· Furniture Donations 1.22 tons
· Fluorescent Bulbs 266 count (0.08 tons)

The total solid waste abated was 26 tons of material. This is down slightly in tonnage
numbers from the 1999 Recycling day; however, the 2000 event was well attended.

I IR/l_FS l ~ lZOL l [userslCity Shared FileM GEND/I COUNCIL & COMMISSIONICity Council[2OOOklulylRel~OnSl2ringEvents.doc
07/03/00
