E CITY CODE OF R3d~/ISEY, <br />MINneSOTA. <br /> <br />,a~N ORi) INANCE <br />II¥IPRO VEMENTS <br />MINNESOTA. <br /> <br />,~¥IENDING SECTION 9.50.50 "CONSTRUCTION OF <br />OF CEL~PTER 9 OF TItE CITY CODE OF RAMSEY, <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey ordains: <br /> <br />SECTION I. PURPOSE <br /> <br />The intent of this ordinance is to provide direction for the placement of sidewalks in new urban <br />residential developments. Sidewalks should be viewed as a necessary adjunct to residential <br />development to meet the following objectives: <br /> <br />a) To promote public safety and welfare by separating pedestrian traffic from roadways in <br /> proxin-fity to schools, churches, shopping facilities, and within residential developments. <br /> <br />b) To encourage pedestrian traffic as an alternative to short vehicular trips, thereby decreasing <br /> traffic, conserving energy, and promoting safety for residents and children; <br /> <br />c) To provide for linkage to the Park & Trail city trail system and encourage recreational use of <br /> the trails; <br /> <br />d) <br /> <br />To improve the pedestrian experience while promoting the use of landscaping such as <br />boulevard trees and plantings, thereby improving the. visual aspects of our neighborhoods and <br />property, values. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. AMENDM_ENT <br /> <br />Section 9.50.50 (Construction of Improvements), Subd. 2(a)(1) (Stage I Improvements) shall be <br />a.mended to add the following: <br /> <br />(o) Sidewalks <br /> <br />Section 9.50.50 (Construction of Improvements), Subd. 3(b) (Stage [ Improvements) shall be <br />amended to add the following: <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />Sidewalks. ,~dl subdivisions wit/fin the urban service area shall have not less than a <br />five-foot (5') wide concrete sidewaLk on at least one side of each throu~__h street or <br />anticipated through street to provide tbr safe pedestrian traffic. Sidewalks may be <br />required on cul-de-sacs. ,~1 sidewalks shall be located with_in the easement area of <br /> <br />-274- \\~-X_?Sl~VOLl\users\City.
