CASE #3

PREPARE POLICY STATEMENT ON URBAN TRAIL/SIDEWALK SITING
AND CONSTRUCTION RESPONSIBILITY
By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor

Background:

As the Commission will recall, both the Planning Commission and the Park and Recreation
Commission examined the need and construction responsibility for trails/sidewalks within the
road right-of-way, This discussion and resulting consensus was limited to the matter of new
subdivisions with urban densities. The Planning Commission seemed to concur with the Park
and Recreation Commission's views and wanted to see a written policy before making a
recommendation to City Council. The purpose of this case is to approve a resolution detailing
the above referenced policy, which will be forwarded to the Planning Commission for
subsequent consideration by City Council. Enclosed for your information is the December 20,
1999 Planning Commission case. A resolution will be presented at the meeting.

Commission Action:

Motion to recommend City Council adoption of the resolution detailing urban trail or sidewalk
siting and construction responsibility,

Reviewed by:

Copies also distributed to:

Parks/Utilities Supervisor
Zoning Administrator

City Engineer
Director of Public Works

PR: 1/13/00

\\
