PW CASE UPDATE ON ANNUAL STREET MAINTENANCE PROGRAM LONG-RANGE PLANNING By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer Background: At the December Public Works meeting, the Committee directed that a long-range street maintenance plan be developed. In response, staff' has prepared detailed programs for each year through 2004. Exhibits of these annual programs will be presented at the meeting. The maintenance strategy for this five-year projection includes the following elements: 1) All new pavements will receive a first sealcoat after five years and a second sealcoat after an additional seven years. 2) Streets that have received two sealcoatings will be monitored and scheduled for an overlay when pavement-rating conditions warrant. 3) Pavements having a rating of 3 or 4 will receive a bituminous overlay as soon as possible. 4) The total project budget will be as follows: City Share Assessed Share Total Budget 2000 200,000 200,000 400,000 2001 225,000 225,000" 450,000 2002 250,000 250,000 500,000 2003 250,000 250,000 500,000 2004 250,000 250,000 500,000 Beyond the five-year detailed projection, staff is preparing an estimate of the funding needed to maintain the City's pavements in acceptable condition. The goal of this longer-term analysis will be to estimate the approximate annual budget needed beyond the immediate five years. This work has not been completed at this time.
