felt that there should be a boardwalk to the park area sometime in the future when funds become <br />available. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired why the Park Commission was recommending a park. <br /> <br />Associate Planner Wald explained that they wanted to stick to their past policy of not giving <br />credit for trails outside of the plat boundary and it is a huge expense for the trail so they agreed to <br />give a $30,000 reduction in park dedication for the land. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen stated that it would be a benefit to have public green space. <br /> <br />Associate Planner Wald noted that the developer would prefer to have a small trail connection <br />directly to the park area rather than the boardwalk. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen inquired why they would construct a trail to an area that is not going <br />to be maintained. <br /> <br />Associate Planner Wald replied that at this point it would only be an easement for future use if <br />the park were to be utilized. <br /> <br />Consensus of the City Council was to not require a boardwalk to the park area but rather provide <br />an easement for a trail connection. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that she would still like to see a fence at the end of Radium Street. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he would rather see trees than a fence. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen suggested a split rail fence with trees. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cook stated that fences only become a large maintenance issue. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />The work session of the City Council adjourned at 8:20 p.m. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />Nanci Libor <br />Recording Secretary <br />TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session/June 17, 2003 <br /> Page 6 of 6 <br /> <br /> <br />
