felt that there should be a boardwalk to the park area sometime in the future when funds become
available.

Mayor Gamec inquired why the Park Commission was recommending a park.

Associate Planner Wald explained that they wanted to stick to their past policy of not giving
credit for trails outside of the plat boundary and it is a huge expense for the trail so they agreed to
give a $30,000 reduction in park dedication for the land.

Councilmember Strommen stated that it would be a benefit to have public green space.

Associate Planner Wald noted that the developer would prefer to have a small trail connection
directly to the park area rather than the boardwalk.

Councilmember Strommen inquired why they would construct a trail to an area that is not going
to be maintained.

Associate Planner Wald replied that at this point it would only be an easement for future use if
the park were to be utilized.

Consensus of the City Council was to not require a boardwalk to the park area but rather provide
an easement for a trail connection.

Councilmember Kurak stated that she would still like to see a fence at the end of Radium Street.

Mayor Gamec stated that he would rather see trees than a fence.

Councilmember Strommen suggested a split rail fence with trees.

Councilmember Cook stated that fences only become a large maintenance issue.

ADJOURNMENT

The work session of the City Council adjourned at 8:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nanci Libor
Recording Secretary
TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc.

City Council Work Session/June 17, 2003
