Case #20: Report from Personnel Committee 1) Consider Authorization to Begin Recruitment Process for a Building Official The Personnel Committee recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution #03-08-226 to authorize staff to begin the recruitment process for a Building Official. lb) Consider Authorization to Hire a Civil Engineer II The Personnel Committee recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution #03-08-227 to authorize the hiring of Leonard Linton as the Civil Engineer II with an annual salary of $48,300, contingent upon satisfactory background and reference checks, an employment physical and a drug and alcohol screen. All other personnel policies would apply normally. Mr. Linton would begin employment on or near September 2, 2003 and would be subject to a six-month probationary period. 2) Discussion Regarding Amending the Process for Appointing Board and Commission Members The Personnel Committee recommended that this item be tabled until the next Personnel Committee meeting for further discussion. Councilmember Strommen inquired if staff would be meeting with Commission Chairs to get their input on the process, Human Resources Manager Reed replied that at this point staff would be coming forward with a recommendation to the Personnel Committee. Councilmember Elvig stated that he recalled agreeing to the hiring of a Civil Engineer but he did not recall the Building Official. He stated that he would like to get a better understanding of the 2004 budget before proceeding with any additional hirings. Motion by Councilmember Kurak, seconded by Councilmember Pearson, to ratify the recommendation of the Personnel Committee. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, and Councilmembers Kurak, Pearson, Cook, Elvig, Strommen, and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. City Council/August 26, 2003 Page 24 of 25
