Mayor Gamec aye] <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />Case #20: Report from Personnel Committee <br /> <br />1) Consider Authorization to Begin Recruitment Process for a Building Official <br /> <br />The Personnel Committee recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution #03-08-226 to <br />authorize staff to begin the recruitment process for a Building Official. <br /> <br />lb) Consider Authorization to Hire a Civil Engineer II <br /> <br />The Personnel Committee recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution #03-08-227 to <br />authorize the hiring of Leonard Linton as the Civil Engineer II with an annual salary of $48,300, <br />contingent upon satisfactory background and reference checks, an employment physical and a <br />drug and alcohol screen. All other personnel policies would apply normally. Mr. Linton would <br />begin employment on or near September 2, 2003 and would be subject to a six-month <br />probationary period. <br /> <br />2) Discussion Regarding Amending the Process for Appointing Board and Commission <br /> Members <br />The Personnel Committee recommended that this item be tabled until the next Personnel <br />Committee meeting for further discussion. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen inquired if staff would be meeting with Commission Chairs to get <br />their input on the process, <br /> <br />Human Resources Manager Reed replied that at this point staff would be coming forward with a <br />recommendation to the Personnel Committee. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he recalled agreeing to the hiring of a Civil Engineer but he did <br />not recall the Building Official. He stated that he would like to get a better understanding of the <br />2004 budget before proceeding with any additional hirings. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Kurak, seconded by Councilmember Pearson, to ratify the <br />recommendation of the Personnel Committee. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, and Councilmembers Kurak, Pearson, Cook, Elvig, <br />Strommen, and Zimmerman.
