Our Unit's Vision is to create a secure,
aware and involved community by uniting law enforcement and residents. Our mission is to provide a variety of
support services to the community and the police department in a non-sworn capacity.

In FEBRUARY 1999, a total of 221 hours were donated by members in the following areas:

MEETINGS / TRAINING:

There were (2) general meetings in February. Topics covered were Overview of Department Forms, Handling of
Found and Recovered Property, and Tow Assists. Sgt. Way came in and gave a training course on the
Department's use of force policies as it pertains to Public Safety Aides. PSA Sgt. Todd Brotkowski gave a course
on Fingerprinting. At total of 85 hours were donated by Public Safety Aide Members for training in February.

GENERAL DUTY:

6 members participated in a total of 73.5 hours of General Public Safety Aide Duty. During the course of their
duties, the Public Safety Aides assisted officers on 7 calls, handled 3 vehicle lockouts, assisted 2 motorists,
conducted 2 extra patrols, and found 2 unsecure businesses. In addition the Public Safety Aides conducted the
following activity:

On 02-06-99, PSA Carey Schiferli and Beth Anderson observed a vehicle in Alpine Park after hours. Upon
checking, they found the vehicle full of juveniles. One of the males dropped a small container, which Schiferli
immediately picked up; it was found to contain a controlled substance. They detained the individuals until officers
could arrive. Because of their observations and actions, a controlled substance was taken offthe street and a Felony
Narcotics arrest was made. Schiferli and Anderson received an accommodation from Sgt. Kuhn.

On 02-19-99, while patrolling the Rivenwick residential district, PSA Sgt. Todd Brotkowski and Jonathan Rudd
interrupted a vehicle break-in in progress. They acted quickly and appropriately, alerting officers and kept a visual
on the subject. Unfortunately, the subject, who fled on foot, got in a vehicle and sped off. Despite this, their
presence in the neighborhood and good observations prevented damage to and theft from the complainant's car. We
applaud them for their actions.

.5
