i <br />I <br /> <br />RAMSEY POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />MONTHLY REPORT <br /> MAY 1999 <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS <br /> <br />5/01/99 Stop Sticks used 8200 block of Hwy 10. <br /> <br />The department responded to 738 Calls For Service compared to in 1059 May of 1998. <br /> <br />DARE/COMMUNITY POLICING <br /> <br />PUBLIC SAFETY AIDE UNIT ACTIVITY <br /> <br />The Public Safety Aide Unit consists of 10 members from the community. Our Unit's Vision is to create a secure, <br />aware and involved community by uniting law enf6rcement and residents. Our mission is to provide a variety of <br />support services to the community and the police department in a non-sworn capacity. The unit is under the <br />direction of Corporal Tim Dwyer and Chief Gustafson. <br /> <br />In MAY 1999, a total of 202 hours were donated by members in the following areas: <br /> <br />MEETINGS / TRAINING: <br /> <br />There was (1) regular business meeting this month and (3) special training sessions. On 05-02-99, (7) Public <br />Safety Aides participated in a special Bennelli Shot-Gun Familiarization Shoot at the Anoka County Gun Range. <br />This was conducted by Firearms Instructors Greg Sullivan and Brad Paplham. It was also attended by Laison <br />Officers Tim Dwyer and Nick Stolp. <br /> <br />On 05-15-99, (11) PSA's successfully completed an ASP Baton Certification Course conducted by Sgt. Way. On <br />05-19-99, Tim Bums attended a National Weather Service "Skywarn" training session at the Anoka AVTI. A total <br />of 77 hours were donated by Public Safety Aide Members for training in February. <br /> <br />GENERAL DUTY: <br /> <br />5 members participated in a total of 52 hours of General Public Safety Aide Duty. During the course of their duties, <br />the Public Safety Aides conducted business checks, found (1) open door, assisted officers with 1 medical <br />emergency, conducted 1 extra patrol detail, patrolled area parks, and delivered council packets <br /> <br />SPECIAL DUTIES: <br /> <br />On 05-21 ~99, PSA Todd Brotkowski and Carey Schiferli conducted special patrol duties during the flooding of <br />River's Bend Park to prevent vehicle trespass and damage to park property. They also conducted patrols of the <br />fairgrounds, checking on all the property to be auctioned at the Tri-City Police Auction on 05-22-99. <br /> <br />On 05-08-99 PSA Carey Schiferli and Tim Bums conducted a Safe-and -Sober "Seat-Belt" Survey on Hwy 47 and <br />CR 116. <br /> <br />On 05-26-99, PSA Tim Bums and Don Bishop participated in the first of several "Park Patrols". This was the idea <br />of Tim Bums, who is active with RYAA. On park patrol duties, the PSA's will be out at local parks during youth <br />athletic activities. The idea is focussed on "public relations"; their duties are to interact with the residents and youth <br /> <br /> <br />
