I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I CASE # SUNWOOD DRIVE EXTENSION (IMPROVEMENT PROJECT #99-41) By: James E. Norman, City Administrator Background: In recent weeks, the City Council has been meeting with residents of the neighborhood near Sunwood Drive between Nowthen Boulevard and Highway ~,47. As part of those discussions, it was determined at a neighborhood meeting held on June 24, 1999, that a decision regarding the extension of Sunwood Drive to Highway ~,47 would be made by the City Council during the August 10, 1999 Council meeting. Due to a scheduling conflict, this item was referred to the August 10, 1999 agenda. As had been presented at an earlier neighborhood meeting, plans for the Sunwood Drive extension have been documented as far back as 1975. It was also documented that the first houses in the neighborhood were not built until the early 1990's. Design of the Sunwood Drive improvement project was included with the proposed Highway #47 improvement project and was initiated approximately two years ago. Bidding for both projects are scheduled for fall of 1999 with anticipated construction during the year 2000. Council was also made aware that should the City decide not to extend Sunwood Drive, the state may require the reimbursement of moneys spent for the construction of Sunwood Drive east of CSAH #5 since MSA routes must terminate on other system routes (i.e. #47) to be eligible for funding. Council Consideration: The Council is asked that formal action to the certainty of the Sunwood Drive extension improvement be placed on the agenda for Council consideration. The item for deliberation could be simply stated that the City should (or should not) proceed with the extension of Sunwood Drive. ~ Council Action: Based on discussion.
