Subsequent to that presentation, Council authorized staff to request proposals
for engineering services for construction of a 1.5 million-gallon water tower and a fifth
municipal well.

In order to provide for adequate time tO review the study's contents prior to selecting an
engineering firm for the above project, staff is recommending adoption of the 1999 Water Study
at this time.

In addition, the City needs to examine the existing water rates in order to remain self sustaining
in light of the near term projects as well as the long term capital improvements forecasted.

At a later date, staff will be requesting authorization to hire the services of a professional to assist
the Finance Department in performing a water rate study.

The Water Study's Section 8 is attached to this case for convenience and as a summary.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend City Council adopt the Water System Study as presented in the June 4,
1999 document.

Reviewed by:

Parks/Utilities Supervisor
Finance Officer
City Engineer

FC: 09/14/99

Copies also distributed to:

City Administrator
Director of Public Works
Community Development Director

IRA_FSI I I/OL I htsersiJThielingl~lO COUNCIL& lB UDGETFI119991Septemberl WaterStud), doc 09/10/99
