The Spring Job Fair - A spring job fair in April 1999 was conducted at the Northtown
Mall in Blaine by the partners of the Minnesota Work Force Center of Anoka County.
Exhibitors were provided with an 8' by 10' display booth for a participation fee of
$150.00

Focus on target membership groups for those positions requiring specifically trained
experiences. For example, with an Administrative Services Manager position,
Council may wish to conduct mass mailings to members of:
MAUMA - Assistant Administrators group
TUG - metro local government personnel group
IMPA - personnel group
League of Minnesota Cities - This is a free service to member cities. The posting is
included in the back section of the League Bulletin and is also offered on the
League's web site.

Prepare a bulletin board that highlights in an aesthetically pleasing way, the available
positions. This should be located in an accessible space in City Hall for the public. It
may be helpful to include pictures of people performing the jobs (especially for
seasonal positions), and include application materials on a table nearby).

The HR person at the City could vOlunteer to be interviewed on the local cable
television network to provide a general overview of city hiring practices or current
recruitment efforts. A scroll message of available jobs could be posted on the local
cable channel and posted on the City's municipal center entrance sign, if available.

Consider "signing" bonuses that the City could offer. The League of Minnesota
Cities suggests considering bonus plans that the City will pay all or part of special
licenses and/or training fees for employees that need them to do their jobs (e.g.
lifeguards, sewer & water operators, POST licenses etc.) :

Wrap Up
This is just a brief overview of areas Council may wish to discuss when drafting general
recruitment policy guidelines for the City of Ramsey. Staff is more than willing to research
additional areas as per Committee discussion.

Committee Recommendation:

Based on Committee discussion, direct Staff to further research topics or to begin drafting
general recruitment guidelines for the City.

Reviewed by:

Copies also distributed to:

City Administrator

Department Heads

PC: 10/12/99
