INTRODUCE ORDINANCE AMENDING PERMITTED USES <br />IN R-1 RURAL RESIDENTIAL ZONING DISTRICTS <br /> By: Acting Community Development Director Sylvia Frolik <br /> <br />CASE <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />As you are aware, City Council has selected a site for a second fire station. The property <br />is zoned R-1 Rural Residential and public buildings or uses are not a permitted use in this <br />zone. On September 7, 1999, the Planning Commission held a public heating to consider <br />a proposed ordinance amending Chapter 9 (Zoning and Subdivision) of Ramsey City <br />Code to include "public Uses" as a permitted use in any zoning district. Due to concerns <br />raised at that public hearing, staff subsequently drafted another ordinance to amend <br />Chapter 9 (Zoning and Subdivision) of Ramsey City Code to allow fire stations in all R-1 <br />Rural Residential Districts. The minutes from the September Planning Commission and <br />the proposed ordinance are attached to this case. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Due to the School District election on November 2, the Planning Commission meeting <br />was rescheduled to November 8. Because of the urgency for Council action to get this <br />pending project into City Code as a permitted use on this parcel, the above case was <br />placed on this agenda without the benefit of the November 8, 1999, Planning <br />Commission recommendation.
