Ramsey Redevelopment Planning <br />Ramsey, Minnesota <br /> <br />Workshop One Summary <br />17 June 1999 <br /> <br />Workshop Overview <br /> <br />Workshop One was conducted on 17 June 1999 at 6:30 p.m. at Ramsey City Hall with the Ramsey <br />Planning Commission. The purpose of the workshop was to: <br /> <br />· Introduce the project <br />· Identify and prioritize redevelopment goals <br />· And Identify redevelopment study areas <br /> <br />Introduction of Project <br /> <br />The project was introduced by city staff and consultant. The project was initiated by the City Council in <br />order to address some of the concerns that have arisen from the public meetings and study of the <br />comprehensive planning process. The project has two primary objectives. The first objective is to identify <br />areas of the community that are in need of redevelopment. The second objective is to select one of the <br />identified areas and develop a redevelopment plan to guide change in the area. Atwo phase process was <br />outlined for the project. In the first phase, the planning commission broadly identifies redevelopment <br />areas and narrows the focus down to one area for redevelopment while the second phase is more intensely <br />focused on a redevelopment plan for one area. and is driven through a focus group comprised of a <br />diversity of community representatives. <br /> <br />Identification of Redevelopment Goals <br /> <br />The consultants presented a list of community goals that included the following list (these goals arenot <br />listed in order of priority): <br /> <br />To cleanup, enhance and protect the environment. <br /> Brownfield cleanup <br /> Miscellaneous dumping cleanup <br /> Storm water management control <br /> <br />To improve community image. <br /> Screen undesirable uses <br /> Remove blight <br /> Enhance architectural detail <br /> <br />To eliminate or resolve land use conflicts and maximize land use efficiency. <br /> Eliminate commercial septic system in MUSA <br /> Screen outside storage areas <br /> Remove non-confomfing uses <br /> <br />4. To improve tax base and increase employment opportunities. <br /> ~ Provide more land for economic development and economic renewal <br /> <br /> <br />
