Ramsey Redevelopment Planning
Workshop On~ Summary
Page 2

Improve existing businesses to take advantage of available infrastructure
Develop at a more urban density allow for a higher intensity of development

To complete a redevelopment project that sets the example for future redevelopment efforts.
>' Define a process for redevelopment initiatives
> Establish community support for redevelopment

After some discussion by the planning commission goal number 6 was added to read as follows:

To complete or improve the roadway network
Enhance transportation connections
Consolidate commercialuses
Contribute to a community focus

During the discussion of the various goals and the purposes for redevelopment several points were made
and acknowledged by the planning commission. Some of those points include the following:

Ramsey has not had to deal with redevelopment in the past as it has been largely a newer community;
however, as the community matures and things change, the city needs to be progressive in ensuring
change is compatible with the community's vision.

· Redevelopment may take a long time from the planning stages to seeing physical improvements. ·

· It was noted that these goals are consistent with the goals in the draft Comprehensive Plan and the
issues and concerns expressed by the community at public meetings.

· Many of the goals that have been identified are directly or indirectly related to one another and by
accomplishing one goal we are in fact furthering others. For example, by improving the community's
image, we will likely be eliminating land use conflicts. By maximizing land use efficiency we will be
increasing the tax base and creating more jobs. Etc...

Prioritization of Redevelopment Goals

The planning commission then went through an exercise using a goals matrix in order to establish the
level of importance for the vahous goals. The following list of goals is the order of importance
determined by the planning commission and will help direct the selection of a first step project. The
completed goals matrix is attached at the end of the summary.

Goals in order of importance

1. To complete a redevelopment project that sets the example for future redevelopment efforts.(it was
determi~ed up fi'ont that this goal should be a number ot~e priority and does ~ot need to be comt2ared
to the other goals)
2. To improve community image.
3. To cleanup, enhance and protect the environment.
4. To eliminate or resolve land use conflicts and maximize land use efficiency.
5. To complete or improve the roadway network
6. To improve tax base and increase employment opportunities.

Identification of redevelopment areas for further study
