Case #2: Name "Community Park #5"

Mr. Boos explained that the Park and Recreation Commission is requested to select a name for
Community Park #5 from suggestions made by the residents and also recommended naming the
creek at the same time. The park name suggestions were the following: Pebble Park, Oakbrook
Park and Oakbrook Stream, Willow Creek, Pebble Creek, Christmas Boot Creek, Oakbrook Park
and Oakbrook Stream, Drake Park, Oak Creek Park, Elmcrest Park, Plum Creek Park, and
Timber Creek Park.

Mr. Boos noted that Commissioner Droegemueller indicated he selected Oak Creek Park.

Commissioner Ostrum questioned if the creek currently had a name. Mr. Boos stated that it is
currently called ditch #66.

Chairperson Cook stated that he liked the name of Elmcrest because of the history of the land
that was explained in the letter by George and Rose Marie Steiner. Chairperson Cook questioned
if the creek should have the same name. Mr. Boos stated the park and the creek do not have to
have the same name, but he thought it would be a good idea.

Chairperson Cook stated that he liked Elmcrest Park and Plum Creek. Co.t.m~issioner L'aMere
stated they should use consistency with the park and the creek.

Mr. Boos suggested verifying the history is accurate if the Commission selects Elmcrest as the
park name.

Commissioner Asfahl stated that the winner should receive some kind of recognition.

Commissioner Johns suggested having Oak Creek Park as a second option if the history is not
true regarding Elmcrest.

Motion by Commissioner Johns, and seconded by Commissioner Asfahl, to recommend to the
City Council approval of Elmcrest Park as the name for Community Park #5 and Elmcrest
Stream for the creek if the history is accurate.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chair Cook, Commissioners Johns, Asfahl, LaMere, Ostrum and
Rolfe. Voting No: None. Absent: Droegemueller.

Mr. Boos expl~ed..~hat Northern States Gas is running a pipeline from Hugo to Elk River which
hms through Ermine'P-ar.~d Shawn Acres Park so the company is buying additional easements
from property owners. He n"omd~at most of the park land is undeveloped, but explained that he
~ing out his recommen~Lq.~ as to things he would like to be done. Mr. Boos noted
th~~fered $28~0~r additional easements on park property and he is
recommending applying the money into the Pla~ct.

C~e s he easement_ money sh-'o'uld~ given to the park since it is
impacting park property.
