PW CASE # 3 IDENTIFY 1999 PRIORITY STREET LIGHTING ADDITIONS By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer Background: Since 1992, the City of Ramsey has operated a street lighting system. As of the beginning of 1999, the City's street lighting system includes 332 lights, of which 110 lights are designated on the Priority Street Lighting System. The Priority Street Lighting System is comprised of streetlights located along intersections of City streets with State, County, and higher-speed City MSA roadways. The purpose of this type of lighting is more for traffic safety in identifying the location of the intersection on a dark highway than for security purposes associated with subdivision lighting. Not all intersections on these routes currently have priority lights installed. However, all intersections initially identified by the Police Department as being high priorities have been illuminated. At this point, the only remaining intersections that have yet to receive priority lighting are classified as residential street intersections. It is anticipated that the 1999 budget of $25,000 will allow for the installation of 20 lights.
