RAMSEY FIRE DEPARTMENT
BODY SPECIFICATIONS

Class 1, Pressure Governor
RELIEF VALVE

A Waterous adjustable relief valve, specially designed for the fire service, shall be provided. The
valve shall be positive and quick acting and have instantaneous on/off control. When in the off
position, the relief valve shall functionally be removed from the system. When turned back on, it
shall again monitor and maintain the pressure the relief valve was set at the last time it was used.
Control for adjusting pressure shall be elliptical shaped for positive grip. An easily removable
pilot valve strainer shall be provided and be accessible from the pump operators panel. Two
indicator lights shall be furnished to show the position of the relief valve - amber for open and
green for closed. CNFPA 1901 STD 12-10.9.1)

Pump Packing
PUMP SEALS

(WTRS)

Stuffing boxes shall be integral with the pump body and be equipped with two piece glands to
permit adjustment or replacement of packing without disturbing the pump. Lantern rings shall be
located at the inner ends of stuffing boxes so that all tings of packing can be removed without
removal of the lantern rings. Water shall be fed into the stuffing box lantern rings for proper
lubrication and cooling when the pump is operating.

Air Pump Shift w/Manual Override
PUMP SHIFT CONTROL

(WTRS)

Housing shall be high tensile gray iron, three piece, horizontally split. Power transfer to pump
shall be through a Morse HY-VO drive chain. The chain shall be pressure lubricated through the
oil pump. The chain sprockets shall be cut from carburized, hardened alloy steel. Spur gears
shall not be acceptable. Drive shafts are to be a minimum of 2.350 diameter hardened and
ground alloy steel. All shafts shall be ball bearing supported. The case shall be designed to
eliminate the need for water-cooling. The pump shift shall be of air control type located to the
right of the driver. A manual override shall be provided.

Rotary Vane Primer
PRIMER PUMP

(WTRS)

Priming pump shall be a Waterous electrically driven, positive displacement, rotary type with a
momentary electric push button control on the pump panel. The control when activated is to
automatically open the priming valve and activate the primer motor at the same time, thus being
a one hand operation. The primer valve is to be connected to the top of both pump volutes
making it possible to prime the pump no matter if the pump is in pressure or volume. Primer
shall be automatically lubricated from a large (5 quart minimum) oil reservoir. Priming pump
shall be built by the manufacturer of the fire pump.
