The data is important as it affects the type of housing
needed and also reveals the growth that is likely to occur in the senior population. While younger seniors
are more likely to remain in their own home, older seniors generally need more support services.

The 1997 Market Study Area's total senior population is 8,203 with 2,404 seniors in the 55 to 59 category,
1,717 seniors in the 60-64 category, 1,175 seniors in the 65-69 category, 970 seniors in the 70-74 category,
777 seniors in the 75-79 category, 563 seniors in the 80-84 category and 596 seniors age 85 and over.

The data reveals that there will be a significant increase in older seniors (those age 75 and over) during the
next five to twenty years. However, the Market Study Area's number of seniors age 55 to 74 in 1997 is
much greater than the number of seniors age 75 and over.

Furthermore, the data reveals that the Market Study Areas have a smaller proportion of seniors in each age
category over age 65 than either Anoka Cotmty or the Metropolitan Area. This is due to the fact that much
of the Market Study Areas consist of outer ting suburbs, which typically do not have a high population of
seniors in their population. However, as the data indicates, the older senior population will increase
significantly in the Market Study Areas and senior housing needs will increase.

Community Partners Research, Inc. 17
