I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />! <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />pCASE #: ~ <br /> <br />POLICE CHIEF'S PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL <br />AND END OF PROBATIONARY PERIOD <br /> By: Jim Norman, City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br />When Dave Gustafson was appointed Police Chief iff April of 1998, the Council established a <br />one-year probationary period and asked that performance reviews be scheduled at six and twelve <br />months. The six-month review was satisfactory and it is now time for the twelve-month review. <br /> <br />To prepare this review, we distributed to Councilmembers and Department Heads a list of <br />expectations established by the City Council at the time of initial appointment and at the six- <br />month review. We also distributed a blank performance appraisal form for the position and <br />asked for feedback. The information received was incorporated into one appraisal form, a copy <br />of which was distributed to Councilmembers under separate cover. <br /> <br />In addition, Chief Gustafson has prepared a written report of his activities the past 12 months. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />In view of direction observation, feedback fi.om others, and lack of complaints, David Gustafson <br />has successfully completed his probationary period and should be retained in the position of <br />Police Chief. <br />Committee Recommendation: ~)~ I <br /> e <br />Recomrcend that City Council adopt the attached r solution ending the one-year probationary <br />period for Police Chi&David Gustafson. <br /> <br />Reviewed By: <br /> <br />City Administrator <br />Administrative Services Manager <br />Police Chief <br /> <br />PC 4/14/98 <br /> <br />Copies also distributed to: <br /> <br /> <br />
