PERSONNEL COMMITTEE
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey Personnel Committee conducted a meeting on Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at the
Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota.

Members Present:

Mayor Thomas Garnet
Councilmember Sheila Beyer

Also Present:

Councilmember Natalie Haas Steffen
City Administrator James E. Mr. Anderson was
notified by.mail of this action. At a special Planning Commission meeting on March 12, 1998,
the Commission passed a motion that the vacancy be re-advertised and that an interview date be
advertised, but no deadline for applications be established. Instead, anyone who arrived up to
and during the time of the interviews could be interviewed. The rationale for the motion was that
the Commission had waited long enough and they wanted the vacancy filled by the April
meeting. Ms. Waite Smith reported that Commissioner Deemer relayed this information to her
on Monday, March 16. Coincidentally, Mr. Anderson left a voice mail message the same
morning saying he was looking forward to the interview and would wait to be notified about the
time. She explained that the Planning Commission's motion directly contradicts the motion
adopted by Council. It also conflicts with the procedure established by the City Council to fill
vacancies on all City commissions. She informed the Committee that interviewing Mr.
Anderson would not prevent the vacancy from being filled in April.

Personnel Committee/March 24, 1998
