I I I Local Government Information Systems Association The LOGIS Advantage September 1, 1998 Jim Norman City Manager City of Ramsey 15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW Ramsey, MN 55303 Dear Jim: This letter is conceming our conversation about LOGIS connectivity and network hardware and PC status at the City of Ramsey. The following recommendations in this letter are made with these goals in mind; 1) To upgrade the network and PCs to the year 2000 compliance. 2) To allow smooth integration with LOGIS applications. 3) To set a standard on the network hardware and software to allow ease of maintenance, upgrades and troubleshooting. 4) To correct problems with network errors, design problems. 5) To establish simplified procedures for maintenance and backups. With the above listed criteria, the following is a list of recommendations for the City of Ramsey in order of logical category: Physical Network Requirements. 1) Establish the Wide Area Network link to LOGIS. This would allow assistance in remote management of the local area network, access to LOGIS applications, and access to the Intemet. (Current status: Order has been placed for a frame relay T1, due date: 09/10/98.) 2) Purchase of an Adtran DSU/CSU for the T1 to router connection. Estimated price: $950. 3) Reterminate network cabling and run a fiber optic cable from police to city hall. (Status: Lou from Cities Communication will be scheduling a time this week to inspect the existing cabling and preparing a bid to terminate all cables to category 5 standards.) 4) Purchase of an Intel 510 switch to perform traffic segmentation and access to 100-MB technology.
