I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Local Government Information Systems Association <br /> The LOGIS Advantage <br /> <br />September 1, 1998 <br /> <br />Jim Norman <br />City Manager <br />City of Ramsey <br />15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW <br />Ramsey, MN 55303 <br /> <br />Dear Jim: <br /> <br />This letter is conceming our conversation about LOGIS connectivity and network hardware and PC <br />status at the City of Ramsey. The following recommendations in this letter are made with these goals in <br />mind; <br /> <br /> 1) To upgrade the network and PCs to the year 2000 compliance. <br /> <br /> 2) To allow smooth integration with LOGIS applications. <br /> <br /> 3) To set a standard on the network hardware and software to allow ease of maintenance, <br /> upgrades and troubleshooting. <br /> <br /> 4) To correct problems with network errors, design problems. <br /> <br /> 5) To establish simplified procedures for maintenance and backups. <br /> <br />With the above listed criteria, the following is a list of recommendations for the City of Ramsey in order <br />of logical category: <br /> <br /> Physical Network Requirements. <br /> <br /> 1) Establish the Wide Area Network link to LOGIS. This would allow assistance in remote <br /> management of the local area network, access to LOGIS applications, and access to the <br /> Intemet. (Current status: Order has been placed for a frame relay T1, due date: 09/10/98.) <br /> <br /> 2) Purchase of an Adtran DSU/CSU for the T1 to router connection. Estimated price: $950. <br /> <br /> 3) Reterminate network cabling and run a fiber optic cable from police to city hall. (Status: <br /> Lou from Cities Communication will be scheduling a time this week to inspect the existing <br /> cabling and preparing a bid to terminate all cables to category 5 standards.) <br /> <br /> 4) Purchase of an Intel 510 switch to perform traffic segmentation and access to 100-MB <br /> technology.
