Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to recommend Council <br />authorize staff to hire a part-time administrative intern for the last quarter of 1998, and to <br />adopt the resolution transferring $3,000 from the Council Contingency Fund to the <br />Administrative Services cost center. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Absent: None. <br /> <br />Case #2: <br /> <br />Recommend Authorization to Hire Deborah Hanson as Accounting <br />Clerk <br /> <br />Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith noted that the appointment of Linda <br />Mayer to the Senior Accountant position let~ a vacancy in the full-time Accounting Clerk <br />position. The primary duties of this position are to process payroll and accounts payable. <br />The position is in the AFSCME bargaining unit and reports to the Finance Officer. It also <br />receives work direction from the Senior Accountant. The salary range for the position is <br />$26,076 to $31,800. Ms. Waite Smith reported that 35 applications were received and <br />rated independently by three people according to pre-established criteria. Seven people <br />were invited to interview on September 9, 1998. The interview panel recommends that <br />the position be offered to Deborah Hanson, effective September 28, 1998, at an annual <br />salary of $26,076. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Gamec and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to recommend that <br />Council authorize hiring Deborah Hanson as full-time Accounting Clerk, effective <br />September 28, 1998, at an annual salary of $26,076, contingent on successful completion <br />of checks for references, criminal history and driving record, and a physical examination. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Absent: None. <br /> <br />Case #3: Recommend Authorization to Hire Joan Smith as Finance Clerk <br /> <br />Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith informed the Committee that Finance <br />Clerk Shelly Haben will not be returning to work following her parenting leave. At the <br />time of Ms. Haben's resignation, staff was processing applications for the Accounting <br />Clerk position. One applicant who preferred part-time work was invited to interview for <br />the Finance Clerk opening. She has experience in the major responsibilities of the clerk <br />position which include conducting special assessment searches, processing accounts <br />receivable, and maintaining finance records. Staff is recommending that Joan Smith be <br />hired as the half-time Finance Clerk, effective immediately.
