I I I I I II. COST, FUNDING AND MAINTENANCE Federal, state and municipal funds are proposed for the construction improvements. This traffic sigmal will effectively be 100 percent City funded, due to the amount of Mn/Dot funds allocated for this project. Mn/DOT would provide a new controller and cabinet. Mn/DOT would be responsible for hardware maintenance, controller maintenance and controller operation. NEED FOR PROJECT/PROJECT DISCUSSION Residents who live along and use TH 47 have expressed concern about safety problems along the roadway. These safety concerns include intersection geometries and operation, poor horizontal and vertical sight distances, and overall traffic congestion and safety. The volumes on TH 47 are continuing to grow and now have reached a point where vehicles on side streets such, as 142nd Avenue NW, are having difficulty finding gaps to enter TH 47. Any increases in either mainline or sidestreet traffic will create significantly increased delays for the sidestreet approaches. Also, roadway improvements are scheduled to occur along TH 47 in the near future. Improvements include median installation and the addition of shoulders throughout much of the corridor. These projects will limit entry into many driveways along the corridor.
