$¢nigr Housing in the City of Ramsey

$ ??

County Commissioner Dennis Berg has suggested that the City of Ramsey look into the
acquisition of land for senior housing. As a result of this idea being in the discussion stage
only, City Council might want to begin contemplating a project of this type with future
CDBG funding.

Recommendation:

In accordance with the County's request, City Staff is recommending allocation of one
year's funding in 1997 and reserving two years funding for 1998.

In concert with welfare reform, City Staff is recommending that the City Council channel a
majority of the funds to agencies that help persons fill the gap between self-sufficiency and
welfare. CEAP, Opportunity Services and Child Care Resource & Referral meet that goal.
In the area of social services, Alexandra House is providing benefit to the most number of
Ramsey residents. And, the City should be using some of the funds to get its own house
and order and ADA retrofits to sidewalks provides that.

City Staff recommends allocation of 1997 CDBG funds in the following ways:

Alexandra House
CEAP
Opportunity Services
Child Care Resource & Referral*
Sidewalk Retrofits

$2,500.00
$2,500.00
$5,000.00
$7,600.00
$13,520.00

TOTAL $31,120.00

*With the exception of Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R), Council was provided
with copies of all applications received from public service agencies at the public hearing on
January 28. A copy of a letter dated February 5, 1997 from CCR&R is enclosed for
Council's information.

MotionAdopt Resolutiont°: ~t97-02-~locatingi~ 1997 Community Development Block
Grant Funds.

Review Checklist:

CC:

City Administrator
Finance Officer

2/11/97

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
