Her feeling <br />is that we use things like MUSA and all people do not know what this term means. Ms. Stanley <br />stated that it seems there needs to be something done. We are looking at putting something in each <br />home that the resident can read. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Haas Steffen, Beahen, Beyer and <br />Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #11: Appointment to Charter Commission <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Haas Steffen and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to appoint Mr. <br />Kenneth Peterson to a term on the Charter Conmaission. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Councilmember Zimmerman stated he has a problem with someone serving on <br />more than one commission/committee at the same time. He felt that Mr. Peterson served on a lot of <br />them and if there are other candidates, maybe it would be better to give them an opportunity to <br />serve. Mayor Gamec stated that this has been discussed and it was recommended Mr. Peterson be <br />appointed. Mr. Schroeder pointed out that there will be three or four more openings on the Charter <br />Commission in May. Mayor Gamec stated that Council and staff will be looking into term limits. <br /> <br />Amendment by Councilmember Haas Steffen and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to amend <br />the motion to include that term limits will be reviewed. <br /> <br />Amendment carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Haas Steffen, Beahen, Beyer <br />and Zimmerman. <br /> <br />Motion carded. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Haas Steffen, Beahen, Beyer and <br />Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />MAYOR/COUNCIL INPUT (cont'd) <br /> <br />Legislation <br /> <br />Councilmember Haas Steffen inquired of the process for legislation support. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder replied there has been no formal process before. He added that if Council wants to <br />bring up legislation, they contact him and he places it on the agenda. <br /> <br />Com~cihnember Haas Steffen inquired if the League of Minnesota Cities has a process to which <br />Mr. Schroeder replied yes. Councilmember Haas Steffen then asked if the League has ever <br />s'~mported something that is City specific to which Mr. Schroeder also replied yes. <br /> <br />4) Barkela Facility <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder announced the Barkela Facility has scheduled their open house for March 12 at <br />5~ z, 0. <br /> <br />Interviewing Process/Commendation <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder reported to Council that Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith put in a lot <br />o{ extra hours over the weekend to complete the report from the interviews conducted with <br />Depart~nent Heads, Police Personnel and the Council with regard to the Police Chief position. <br /> <br />City Council/February 25, 1997 <br /> Page 2'/ of 28 <br /> <br /> <br />
