NARRATIVE FOR BORROW PIT UTILIZATION ~ GREEN VALLEY ROAD <br /> <br />The proposed borrow pit is located on the Eric Thomsen farm at 6210 Green Valley Road in <br />Anoka County, City of Ramsey. Approximately 200,000 cubic yards of material is expected to be <br />mined from the pit. Since less than 5 acres ;vill be opened at a time without reclamation, an <br />Erosion Control Plan and a N?DES General Storm water Permit is not required for this project. <br />Approximately 9 acres will be disturbed over the life of the operation. The following excavation <br />plan incorporates storm water run off control as well as an efficient method of excavation and pit <br />rehabilitation. The work items are listed in the chronological order they will occur at the site. <br /> <br />MN DOT Heavy Duty silt fence will be installed along the southern edge of the project site <br />between the proposed borrow pit and the wetlands. After the silt fence is installed, clearing and <br />grubbing will commence. The trees wilI be salvaged for fire wood as much as is practical. The <br />stumps and tree tops will be pushed into piles and burned on site after the proper permit is <br />secured. <br /> <br />The haul road and 100 foot gravel buffer will be constructed as indicated on the grading plans. <br />The gravel buffer will be refreshed as necessary to minimize tracking onto Green Valley Road. A <br />security gate will be installed along the haul road to lhnit access during non working hours. Proper <br />signage wilt be erected along Green Valley Road during tracking operations. <br /> <br />Initial topsoil stripping will be done along the South face of the hill. The topsoil will be pushed <br />downhill to create a berm in front of the silt fence. The topsoil berm will be a minimum of 4 feet <br />high. The sthpping activity will be conducted in such a way as to create a depressed area in front <br />of the berm for water storage. It is anticipated that all storm water will be initially contained by <br />the berm. The natural sandy soils will allow natural filtration and percolation of the contained <br />water. The berm will be seeded with rye grass or some other suitable cover crop. Erosion control <br />measures wilI be maintained until final cover is established. The rest of the topsoil will be stripped <br />to allow excavation of the borrow material and will be stockpiled for restoration. No topsoil will <br />be exported from the site. <br /> <br />Borrow excavation is scheduled to begin along the hill's Northeast edge and proceed to the East <br />and South. A backhoe will most likely be utilized to load the trucks. The material will be <br />excavated full depth and completely removed from an area. No more than 5 acres will be exposed <br />at a time without reclamation. All disturbed ardas (including the haul road), will be reclaimed. For <br />instance, if half of pit area is disturbed to provide material for a particular project, that material <br />will be removed and then that portion of the borrow pit will be reclaimed before excavation <br />continues. <br /> <br />Reclamation of the borrow pit will include grading the subgrade to six inches below the contours <br />shown on the grading plan and then spreading the available topsoil over the disturbed areas. The <br />site will then be seeded with a cover crop.
