She stated that she reviewed the applications and rated them according to a rating sheet developed jointly by the Police Chief, Police Sergeant, and herself, prior to the position being advertised. Following her review, the Acting Chief then rated them and comparisons were made. Where there was a difference of 10 points, we did a reconciliation. As of today, 20 applicants were agreed upon and interview invitations wilt be sent out the week of March 10, with interviews conducted the following week. Ms. Waite Smith reported there is only one applicant for the Police Chief position that was posted internally. The posting ends on Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at 5:00 p.m. Case #4: Revisit Policy on Commission Appointments Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith informed the Committee that Councilmember Beyer had asked that action be held on this case until she can be present. Suggestions were that staff should look at staggered terms and how that can be implemented, and possibly consider ad hoc committees but allow those people to also serve on another City commission/committee. It was also suggested that the commission members be polled for their ideas on staggering terms, etc. It was mentioned that three-year terms may be a good idea. Case #5: Consider Possible Changes to Council meeting Minute Taking Administrative Services Manager Waite Smith reported that Councilmember Beyer had also asked that no action be taken on this issue in her absence. Councilmember Haas Steffen felt that the way the minutes are taken now is archaic and they should not have to be taken verbatim. She felt the staff person's time could be better utilized for other things. She suggested the motion and vote is what's essential for minute taking. ADJOURNMENT Consensus was to adjourn the meeting.
