There has been drastic changes with the newspaper market, since we bid <br />this.contract in June of 1995. <br /> <br />In 1995, Ace Solid Waste, Inc. introduced the Simple Sort Service program for it's convenience <br />to the resident. At that time recycling markets were on the rise. Newspaper markets were at an <br />all time high, as much as $60.00 - $75.00 a ton. Today's market has fallen to all time low's, like <br />we have seen in the middle to late 1980's. We are now paying in the $20.00 range with no hope <br />in site that we are currently operating at a loss. With the current program, the new household rate <br />would need to increase to $1.85 per home. <br /> <br />I would be willing to meet with the city to discuss any other options.
