I
i

RB CASE #

PETITION FROM 149TH AVENUE RESIDENTS REQUESTING THE
CONSTRUCTION OF A CUL-DE-SAC AT 149TH AND URANIUM
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

The City of Ramsey received a petition from residents of 19 properties in the 149th Avenue
neighborhood, west of Ramsey Boulevard, which requests the construction of a cul-de-sac at the
coruer of Uranimite and 149th Avenue. Attached is both the petition and a map of the general
area. The City has no previous history of cul-de-sacing or dead ending streets for the purpose of
traffic reduction on speed controls, with the exception of the temporary closure of 171st Avenue
between Zeolite and Bison Street in August, 1996.

The Road and Bridge Committee began work on establishing a policy for addressing various
traffic calming in the fall of 1996. Concurrence was achieved on some elements by the
Committee, however, the policy has yet to be developed on geometric roadway modifications,
including the issue of street closure being requested by these petitioners. (See Case #3 of this
agenda.)

Ms. Trudy Matilla, representing the petitioners, requested an opportunity to discuss the issue
with the Road and Bridge Committee.

Committee Action:

No action is recommended. This discussion should be an opportunity for an exchange of views
with the goal of developing a policy that will be effective on a City-wide basis.

Reviewed by:

City Engineer
City Administrator ,.

R&B: 08/12/97

/jmt
