Ongoing annual expenses would include salary and benefits. Stanton Group Six Cities <br />with full-time Fire Chiefs have an average salary range of $49,200 to $57,564. Ramscy <br />Police Sergeants are currently paid $51,000 annually. Staff is recommending that the <br />Fire Chief salary be established at $51,000 annually. With the addition of benefits, the <br />ongoing annual cost for the position would be $64,541. As an exempt employee, the Fire <br />Chief would no longer receive payment for responding to fire calls or attending drills and <br />officer meetings. <br /> <br />Funding for the position could be taken from several areas. Approximately $27,558 can <br />be eliminated from the 1998 Streets and Parks budget requests for additional part-time <br />temporary help. With the addition of a full-time Community Development Assistant, one <br />of the part-time intern positions in Community Development can be eliminated to free up <br />$18,548. Wages paid to the Volunteer Fire Chief in 1996 cost the City $4,139.
