Similar to an entry level planning position, the Community Development
Assistant position would require a Bachelor's Degree in City Planning or Urban Studies.
Some of the duties identified include:

Conduct field inspections to assure compliance with approved site plan.

Assist in site plan reviews and prepare staff review letter.

Research grant opportunities and assist departments in completing grant
applications.

Coordinate, oversee inspections of City/private development subdivision work.

Assist City Engineer in preparation of cost estimates/feasibility studies for public
improvement projects.

Perform code enforcement activities.

Oversee the septic system maintenance and inspection system.

Assist Zoning Administrator/City Engineer on special projects.

Represent Zoning Administrator/City Engineer in their absence.

Act as staff liaison to Park & Recreation Commission.

We reviewed a number of sources and were unable to find a position pro. file that was a
close match for the duties of this position. Among those we considered were Planner I,
Engineering Aide, Administrative As_sistant, and Engineering Tech.

Since this position would be assisting the Zoning Administrator position, which is in
Class 11 with an annual salary range of $26,801 to $36,217, staff is recommending that
the Community Development position be placed in salary grade 10 with an annual
starting salary of $24,925 ($ 11.98 per hour). Entry level Planner positions in Stanton
Group 6 cities had an average salary range of $30,500 to $39,300. In Ramsey's
