Because
the position will not be'equivalent to the traditional CSO position, Council suggested we call it
something else. We suggested the title "Public Safety Aide."

The attached job description was developed jointly by the Administrative Services Manager,
Police Chief and one of the Police Sergeants and presented to the Personnel Committee in
October. The Committee noted a discrepancy between the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
required and the minimum qualifications required and asked that we reconcile the differences.
The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities section has been revised and being submitted for review and
approval.

This half-time position would begin after January 1, 1998. We would like to advertise the
position in mid-November so as to have someone in the position by the first week in January.

Committee Action:

Review the draft job description for a Public Safety Aide and revise if necessary.

Recommend that City Council approve the job description for Public Safety Aide.

Recommend that City Council authorize staff to advertise the position with the intent of having
the person hired begin work after January 1, 1998.

Reviewed By:

Acting City Administrator
Police Chief

PC 11/10/97

lindas\psaide2.job
