1 Additional needed irrigation and curb cuts were briefly discussed.
' In response to Commissioner Rolfe the status of Apple Ridge is not specifically known. Mr. Boos
noted there is a purchase agreement for the community park (#5). He added the visioning process
is a good one for the Commission to draw upon in relation to the five-year CIP process. Once more
is known about development of the land, the City needs to move forward in the acquisition of the
Community Park.
Case 93: Discuss September 18, 1997, Visioning Meeting
Results of the September 18, 1997, and most recent meetings on October 6, 7, 8, 1997, were
discussed. Summaries of general input will be forwarded to residents.
In response to Commissioner Droegemueller, Commissioner Johns clarified the most recent meetings
have narrowed down issues. Discussion in her group included transportation corridors, parks &
trails, and whether to keep the City rural or not.
Commissioner Droegemueller believed a need exists to clarify to residents how parks are funded. Mr.
Boos suggested hosting an informational meeting in conjunction with the Commission's regularly
scheduled meeting. He added it may be a good idea to network with the Economic Commission.
Commissioner Johns added input related to the visioning process continues to include a desire for a
gathering place which would not necessarily include a "downtown" with shopping, etc. Mr. Boos
posed the Community Picnic would afford a good opportunity for the Commission to market their
5-year CIP.
Commissioner Ostrum reiterated the need to provide a reason for Ramsey residents to stay `home'
during special holidays such as July 4'h by sponsoring a fireworks display. Cost of such an event
would range approximately $4,000 but could be offset through local business donations.
Commissioner Droegemueller suggested using the landfill location as a destination site.
COMMISSION INPUT
Mr. Boos talked about a request by the City of Anoka to make a presentation at the Commission's
November meeting about development of their Aquatic Center.
Commission members reviewed the letter sent to the City Administrator, Ryan Schroeder, in light of
his resignation from the City recognizing his contributions and wishing him well in future endeavors.
A brief discussion ensued about Brooklyn Center's recent bond issue.
Park and Recreation Commission/October 9, 1997
Page 3 of 4
WJ
