Sewage disposal sysEems <br />§ 8.3 0 <br />15. Compartmentation. Septic tanks larger than 3,000 gallons <br />and fabricated as a single unit shall be divided into two or <br />more compartments. <br />(a) When a septic tank is divided into two compartments, <br />not legs than 1 nor more than s of the total volume, shall <br />be in the first compartment. <br />(b) When a septic tank is divided into three or more <br />compartments, 2 of the total volume shall be in the first <br />compartment and the other 2 equally divided in the other <br />compartments. <br />16. Connections between compartments shall be baffles so as to <br />obtain effective retention of scum and sludge. The <br />submergence of the inlet and outlet baffles of each <br />compartment shall be as specified in paragraphs 7 and 8 <br />above. <br />17. Adequate venting shall be provided between compartments <br />by baffler, or by an opening of at least 50 square inches near <br />the top of the compartment valL <br />18. Adequate access to each compartment shall be provided by <br />one or more manholes, at least 20 inches in dimension, and <br />located within 6 feet of any wall of the tank. The manhole <br />shall extend to a point within 12 inches, but not closer than 6 <br />inches, below finished grade. The manhole cover shall be <br />covered with at least 6 inches of earth. <br />19. Where more than one tank is used to obtain the required <br />liquid volume, the tanks shall be connected in series. <br />a) Each tank shall comply with all other provisions of <br />§8.30.04 Subd_ 3. <br />b) No more than four tanks in series can be used to obtain <br />the required liquid volume. <br />c) The first tank shall be no smaller than any subsequent <br />tanks in series. <br />20. Aerobic tanks. Aerobic tank treatment systems shall comply <br />with the general requirements for sewage tanks set forth in <br />Subd. 2, and with the following: <br />a) The treatment system including each individual unit or <br />compartment shall be easily accessible for inspection <br />and maintenance and shall be provided with secured <br />covers. <br />b) The raw sewage flow from the dwelling shall be <br />intercepted by a trash trap prior to its entering the <br />Printed 12/28/90 Page 243 <br />
