§ 8.30 <br />OWPOL <br />Paze 244 <br />aeration compartment. The trash trap shall have a net <br />holding capacity of net less than 20 m of the average daily <br />flow. The invert level to the trap shall be above the liquid <br />level and discharge directly into the trap. The outlet <br />from the trap to the aeration compartment shall be deep <br />baffled or equipped with tee or long ell. <br />c) The trash trap shall be readily accessible for inspection <br />and effective cleaning and shall be so constructed as to <br />prevent unauthorized entry. <br />d) The aeration compartment shall have a minimum <br />holding capacity of 500 gallons or 120 gallons per <br />bedroom, which ever is greater. <br />e) The method of aeration shall be accomplished by <br />mechanical aeration, diffused air, or both. The method <br />used shall maintain aerobic conditions at all times. <br />f) The settling compartment shall have a minimum net <br />holding capacity equal to - 20% of the volume of the <br />aeration compartment. The design shall provide for <br />effective settling and continuous return of settled sludge <br />to the aeration compartment. <br />g) A m}ritmum one year warranty and an initial two year <br />service contract which specified regular inspection calls <br />and effluent quality checks shall be provided as a part of <br />the purchase agreement. <br />h) All other features of the aerobic tanks not specifically <br />mentioned above shall comply with National Sanitation <br />Foundation Standard No. 40 (November, 1970). <br />c . Capacity. Dwellings The liquid capacity of a septic tank serving a <br />dwelling shall be based on the number of bedrooms contemplated <br />in the dwelling and shall be at least as large as the capacities <br />given below. <br />Number of Booms <br />Tani: Liquid Capacities <br />(Gallons) <br />3 or less <br />1,000 <br />4 <br />1,250 <br />5 <br />1,500 <br />For each additional bedroom, <br />add 250 gallons. <br />Other Establishments. The liquid capacity of a septic tank <br />serving an establishment other than a dwelling shall be sufficient <br />to provide a sewage detention period of not less than 36 hours in <br />the tank for flows less than 1,500 gallons per day, but in no <br />instance shall the liquid capacity be less than 1,000 gallons. For <br />flows greater than 1,500 gallons per day, the minimum liquid <br />capacity shall equal 1,125 gallons plus 75% of the daily sewage <br />Printed 12!28!90 <br />
