Planning Proposal for: <br />Mississippi West Regional Park <br /> <br />Anoka County Department of Parks and Recreation <br /> <br />9. PUBLIC AWARENESS <br /> <br /> Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department publishes a family of brochures advertising and <br />marketing its park and trail system. Each park with its facilities and programs is inventoried described. <br />Brochures are displayed at libraries, schools, parks, city hails, golf courses, swimming pools, and nature <br />centers. Special park programs are advertised in community newspapers. The Anoka County Chamber of <br />Commerce in its annual publication highlights the Anoka County park system. Twenty thousand brochures <br />are distributed to school children and a quarterly publication is sent about five thousand people. <br /> <br />I0. SPECIAL NEEDS <br /> <br /> The following profile of Anoka County residents is from the Anoka County Chamber of Commerce <br />and the Anoka County GIS Department. <br /> <br /> Anoka County is the fourth largest county in the State oflVfinnesota with a population of <br />approximately 275,000. Its population is 98% Caucasian, 1.1% Asian, .5% Hispanic, .2% African <br />American, and .2% Native American. The average age is 30 and residents over 65 comprise only 5.6% <br />(1990 data). Anoka County does fund <br />a mini-bus curb to curb service called the "Anoka County Traveler". The "Anoka County Traveler" covers <br />all of Anoka County. There are senior, peak, and non-peak ride rates with a maximum cost of $2.50.
