Anoka County Park and Recreation System. <br />Utilize the classification system as a tool to define the <br />appropriate service delivery niches in the county for <br />various public and private reereat/on suppliers. <br />Utilize the classification system to determine the <br />appropriate types offacilites and uses in park reserves, <br />regional parks, county parks, and special features. <br />Cameully examine the appropriateness of ~m-~t park <br />units within the Anoka County Park and Recreation <br />System relative to the classification system (i.e. are <br />there parks which do not fit well with the park <br />classification units of a county park system?). <br />Using the classification system, determine where and <br />to what extent it may be appropriate to add new units <br />to the regional or county park system (e.g. <br />trails/greenways) or to make modifications to ex/sting <br />park units. <br /> <br />1.3 RECREATION PROVIDERS <br /> <br />The Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department should <br />cooperate in the planning and coordination of trails, park <br />facilities, recreation programs, and marketing with other <br />outdoor recreation providers. <br /> <br />STRATEGIES <br /> <br />Continue to work with the Anoka County Parks and <br />Recreation Directors' Coalition to define appropriate <br />roles for recreation providers. <br />Implement strategies to cooperate on the use of <br />equipment, technology, and information across <br />agencies. <br />Cooperate in the planning and coordination of trails, <br />park facilities, and recreation programs. <br />Work in cooperation with technical resource agencies <br />such as the Anoka Conservation District, local <br />watershed districts, and Department of Natural <br />Resources to ensure the comprehensive management <br />of the park system's natural landscapes. <br />Work in ~on with regional planning authorities <br />toward the vision of creating natural greenways and <br />trail ecrrridors which connect regional parks to other <br />significant natural areas within the county. <br />Continue to a~tively pursue outside grant funding from <br />other agencies including the Minnesota Department of <br />Natural Resources, Metropolitan Council, <br />Conservation districts, Minnesota Historical Society, <br /> <br />etC. <br />Actively pursue technical planning services available <br />through colleges and universities in the areas of <br />resource assessment, resource planning, park planning, <br />and other special research related projects. <br />Cooperate with other county departments in the <br />provision of maintenance, programming, marketing, <br />and other related projects and services. <br /> <br />1.4 NATURAL RESOURCE <br /> MANAGEMENT A.ND PROTECTION <br /> <br />The Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department is <br />coi,,,,itted to a comprehensive or holistic approach to natural <br />resource conservation. The intent is to focus on the diverse <br />ecological and social inter-relationships of regional natural <br />systems. This goal should be realized throughthe following <br /> <br />STRATEG~S <br /> <br />Identify and delineate greenway corridors containing <br />both si~tmificant ecological resources and potential <br />soc/al resource linkages. <br />Assess and determine the ecological and social benefits <br />and feasibility of the greenway corridor. <br />Work with land owners to pursue cooperative methods <br />ofnatnrai resource stewardship, including conservation <br />easements and land trusts for protecting valuable <br />resomv~ and establishing greenways. <br />Seek financ/al and technical assistance from outside <br />natural resource agencies. <br />Monitor, document, and mlnlmi~e the cumulative <br />effects of recreation use in the greenway corridors, <br /> <br />The Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department is <br />committed to preserving existing presettlement landscape <br />comml.m.ities, protecting unique plants and animals, and <br />restoring remnant communities of native vegetation utili~ing <br />an ecologically sound approach to sustainable parks and <br />recreation development <br /> <br />STRATEGIES <br /> <br />· Develop a standard/zed natural resources classification <br /> <br /> <br />
