CHAPTER 10 <br /> <br />GOALS AND STRATEGIES <br /> <br />1.0 ENTRO DUC'~ON <br /> <br />The 2020 Vision, Stakeholders Task Force acted as a focus <br />group to study the issues (see Chapter 8) that were <br />identified during the planning process and develop goals <br />and strategies related to each issue. The statements were <br />m-viewed and approved by the Anoka County Parks and <br />Recreation Department (ACPD) Staff and the Parks <br />Committee. <br /> <br />During their review, ACPD Staffdrafced additional action <br />statements that apply ta daily activities in the management <br />and operation of the p~k system. <br /> <br />The goals identify speoific accomplishments that the Parks <br />and Recreation Department will strive for during the next 5, <br />10 and 20 years. The ~xategies define actions that will be <br />taken by the deparma~t to satisfy the intent of the goals. <br />The goal and action statements were also used during the <br />planning process to p~vide guidance for preparation of <br />recommendations that are included in the other chapters of <br />the 2020 Vision Plan. <br /> <br />1.1 VISION AND MISSION <br /> <br />It was determined that vision and mission statements should <br />be prepared for the Parks and Recreation Deparmaent that <br />describe what the vision for the future of the park system <br />should be and how that vision can be accomplished. The <br />statements, prepared as part of the 2020 planning process, are <br />included in Chapter 9 of the plan. A summary of the major <br />vision and mLssion concepts are cited in the following strategy <br /> <br />STRATEGIES <br /> <br />The Park System reflects a high level of respect and <br />priority for natUral resources and wildlife. <br /> <br />Stewardship of the land has preserved and protected <br />ecosystems in their natural condition. <br />The nan?al character of the park system allows people <br />to re-create and to recreate as well. <br />Programming reflects the variety of people who use the <br /> <br />The park system encourages use by a broad cross- <br />section of the commtlnity. <br />Greenways connect system parks with local <br />commllnities and points of interest. <br />The park system is identifiable by appropriate, unique <br />architectural designs that are reflective of their natural <br /> <br />Adequate and appropriate funding sources have been <br />achieved, resulting in improved and increased <br />experiences wi*hln the park system. <br />Customers are best served by a dedicated team who <br />work in cooperation and are appropriately supported <br />by the organizafiom <br />The department is committed to providing the most <br />effective results fi:om the work it does. <br />The department operates in a positive, open, and <br />inclusive manner with all stakeholders of the <br />organization. <br /> <br />1.2 PARK CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM <br /> <br />A park classification system should be developed for the <br />Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department This <br />classification should be specific to the needs of the Parks and <br />Recreation Department, while reflecting standards of the <br />regional park system. <br /> <br />STRATEGIES <br /> <br />Develop a park classification system which <br />incorporates national and regional open space <br />standards, while reflecting the unique attributes of the <br /> <br /> <br />
