i
I
I
I
I
I
I
,I

Case #

ANOKA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION LINE
By: Ryan R. Schroeder, City Administrator

Background:

For quite some time, the Cities of Anoka and Ramsey have been working through a myriad
of issues regarding Anoka's proposed 69KV electric transmission line. One of the larger
issues of late is the location of the line near Akron. You will recall that Ramsey purchased
property from Altron for the 1996 extension of Sunwood Drive. In order to complete the
purchase, it was necessary to move the road alignment to the north of its original proposed
location and purchase all of the Alu'on property north of the new Sunwood Drive location.
We have intended that this additional property would become a development parcel in the
future.

Such being the case, we asked the Anoka Municipal Utility (AMU) to mute their
transmission line in such a way as to not negatively impact the marketability of this parcel.
Anoka Electric Cooperative (AEC), the adjacent property owner had the same concern
regarding their property. The AMU position is that they did not believe that this
transmission line alignment had a negative impact.

Enclosed is the board presentation that the AEC staff prepared regarding the alignment
issue. The proposal is that we allow AMId to construct their transmission line as they
originally proposed. However, if a future user on our property or the AEC property
needed to have the line moved in the future to facilitate development, AMU would cause
that to happen at their expense.

Council Action:

Motion to allow the alignment for the transmission line pursuant to the attached and upon
Anoka agreement that future adjustments in the line would be solely at their cost.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator

CC: 01/23/96

~mt
