Crossing by Mn/DOT. At this time, the City may want to consider developing a more fitting
identification for the site. Mn/DOT is willing to place a sign and new identification. They would limit
the new name to some historical significance, event, or site. Some possible suggestions would be:

Itasca Heights Settlement
· Kelley Farm
· Indian Encampments along Bowers Drive
· TheRiver Crossing

The EDC discussed what item would be the best to represent the City and it was decided to find someone
who was involved in the history of the area to help develop a theme for the wayside rest.

Mr. Gromberg informed the Commission that Mayor Hardin has been involved with the Anoka County
Historical Society on recent events in the City.

Motion by Commissioner Stafki and seconded by Chairperson Wagner to ask Mayor Hardin to develop a
theme or designation for the wayside rest.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Wagner, Commissioners Kent, Stafki, and Nelson. Voting
No: None. Absent: Commissioners McGhee and Ullen.

The EDC continued the discussion regarding the wayside rest and the possibility of locating a new
monument sign on the site. This sign would be similar to the sign currently located at the 153rd and
Highway//10 intersection. This sign would be located on the western-most boundary of the wayside rest.

Motion by Commissioner Stafki and seconded by Chairperson Wagner to locate an additional entrance
sign along the western boundary of the City.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Wagner, Commissioners Kent, Stafki, and Nelson. Voting
No: None. Absent: Commissioners McGhee and Ullen.

The EDC also discussed whether the City would have a use for the current monument sign located on the
McKay property. McKay's has expressed an interest in donating the sign and any required sign
easement. The City should only accept the sign if there is a use for it, so that it does not become a
problem for either McKay's or the City. The Commission proceeded to discuss the possible uses and
determined that the sign could be used as a community bulletin board. The sign should be modified to
identify it as a community bulletin board. It should also be modified to prevent the letters from being
stolen or changed.

Motion by Commissioner Kent and seconded by Commissioner Stafki to accept the donation of the
McKay sign and to modify it to reflect the use as the community bulletin board.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Wagner, Commissioners Kent, Stafki, and Nelson. Voting
No: None. Absent: Commissioners McGhee and Ullen.

Commissioner Nelson was excused at 7:32 p.m.

Economic Development Commission/January 4, 1996
Page 4 of 5

I
I
I
I
I
I
I:

!
I
!
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
