THE ALL NEW SIX TEN
Vital, thriving communities rely on transportation ... for economic
development, improved travel, jobs and community growth. A well -coordinated
transportation system can relieve congestion and improve transportation for all
motorists. To reach these goals for the northern Twin Cities suburbs, Highway
#610 has been proposed as an east to west transportation corridor through the
north metro area since the early 1970's.
The fast step toward that goal was the construction of the Richard Braun
Bridge which was build in 1985 and crosses the Mississippi River, linking
Highway #10 in Coon Rapids with Highway #252 in Brooklyn Park. When
completed, the 11 mile, four lane Highway #610 Corridor will connect Interstate
94 in Maple Grove with Interstate 35W in Mounds View. There will be nine
interchanges, spaced approximately one mile apart, as well as six roadway
overpasses and two pedestrian bridges.
Care is being taken to design a transportation corridor that will include m any
modes of travel. Bike trails and pedestrian paths will be an integral part of the
Highway #610 Corridor. Improved transitoptions will include park and ride lots,
ramp meters and bypass lanes for commuters and buses. Noise walls along the
corridor will protect homes and businesses from noise. Landscaping will
enhance the view for motorists and residents of the communities.
For more information, call Glen Ellis at (612) 797 -3029.
SECURITY CHECKLIST
VA A ►
If you're off to warmer climates for a winter vacation, don't forget some
security basics as part of you pre- departure planning:
* Arrange to have your walk and driveway shoveled as needed while you are
away.
* Stop your mail and newspaper delivery or arrange for daily pick -up.
* Use automatic timers on lightes, a television or radio in at least two areas of
your home so it looks "lived -in."
• Check locks on all windows and doors, including the basement and garage.
• Leave curtains or shades in their normal positions.
• Leave a key and emergency information with a trusted neighbor.
• If you have a home security system, notify the company of your departure
and return.
PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT
WOULD EXTEND MAYOR'S TERM
The City of Ramsey Charter Commission is recommending an amendment
to Chapter 2 of the Home Rule Charter of Ramsey, which establishes the terms
of office for Council Members and the Mayor.
Currently, Council Members are elected to a fur -year term and the Mayor
is elected to a two -year term. The proposed amendment would change the
Mayor's term of office to four years, beginning with the election in the year 2000.
TheCity Council is holding apublic hearing on March 26,1996, at7:00p.m.
in the City Council Chambers of the Ramsey Municipal Center, to receive public
input on this issue. For more information, please call Charter Commission
Chairperson Bernie S teffens at780-8500.
