Todd Beldon mentioned that the only traffic in the area is construction vehicles. He feels the
City is putting something in now that is not needed - maybe in the future, but not now.

Mr. Boos countered that the level of difficulty in constructing sidewalks increased if you wait.

Chairperson Cook said that they are asking that the money be put aside until the trail existing to
the north is ready.

Mr. Ryen asked if the developments will be basically to the north or will they be moving west
also allowing for more access streets.

Mr. Boos replied that there is the potential for an additional north/south road.

Mr. Wojciak questioned whether more play equipment will be placed in the park. The park is
pretty full on any given day, and with more children comes the possibility of more trouble.

Mr. Boos said that there would be a bid opening tomorrow for a playground further down I42nd
Ave. He indicated that it would cost about $6000 for stand-alone play equipment. Funds could
be re-directed for additional equipment, possibly eliminating a few trees. He will ask the
playground provider to quote prices, perhaps on equipment for younger children.

Commissioner Ostrum asked about the irrigation figures.

Mr. Boos indicated his figures may be high.

Commissioner Asfahl asked how disrupting installation of the the irrigation system would be to
RYAA.

Mr. Boos replied that it would only take a few days, hopefully in the first part of June, depending
on the outcome of the April 23 City Council meeting.

Chairperson Cook explained the Charitable Gambling Fund and questioned whether using the
fund could be an option.

Mr. Boos could ask City Council to consider, but, he's sure they'd agree unless there is a
volunteer labor commitment. ..

Consensus of the Commission is to reduce the budget for the victorian garden area with arbor
and seating to $8000, reduce the tree budget to $6000, and to reduce the contingency/future
improvements budget to $4800.

Motion by Commissioner JohnS and seconded by Commissioner Asfahl to recommend City
Council approve the amended draft budget including a mailing to all meeting attendees so they
may assist in the selection of playground equipment.

Park and Recreation Commission .Il 1996

I
I
I
I
I
I
!
I
!
I
I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
