Elements Common to All Commissions <br /> <br />Qualified applicants for City commissioners should: <br /> <br />1. Be concerned about the entire community and aware of the desires of community <br /> members. <br /> <br />2. Be interest, ed in the work of the specific commission they're applying for. It's <br /> helpful if~ey have a vision of what they'd like the commission to accomplish. <br /> <br />3. Have time:to attend commission meetings and perform related duties. <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Be open minded and objective. <br /> <br />Be able to communicate effectively - expressing own opinions concisely and listening <br />respectfully to the opinions of others. <br /> <br />Be able to work effectively with others, including being able to disagree without <br />destroying working relationships. <br /> <br />Be able to focus on issues, identify and analyze alternatives, and make good <br />decisions. <br /> <br />Qualified commission applicants should not: <br /> <br />1. Be politically involved. <br /> <br />2. Be primarily motivated by self interest or special interests. <br /> <br />3. Have an ax to grind with the City Council. <br /> <br />In addition~ consideration should be given to how particular applicants will enhance the <br />diversity of age, gender, type of job, geographic area, and expertise represented on the <br />commission. <br /> <br /> <br />
