I

I

I

I
I

I
I

I
I
I
I

DRAFT POLICY ON COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS
By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager

Background:

On June 11, 1996, the City Council directed me to prepare a draft policy for appointing members
of the City's advisory boards and commissions.

The proposed policy contains a limitation of'three consecutive two-year terms of office for
members of boards and commissions. Adoption would require a cha~ge in Chapter 2.03.02
subd.3, of the City Code.

As requested, I have also attached a list of current commissioners and the expiration dates of
their current terms of office.

Council Action:

1. Modify and adopt policy, based on discussion; and

2. Amend Chapter 2.03.02 subd.3, of the City Code to incorporate term limits, if policy is
adopted without changing the section on term limits, and

3. Establish any "grandfathering" rights of current members of boards and commissions, and

4. Direct Administrative Services Manager to notify all boards and commissions of the policy.

Reviewed By:

City Administrator
Administrative Services Manager

Copies also distributed to:

CC 07/09/96
