POLICY FOR APPOINTING MEMBERS <br />OF CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br />Pupose: The Mayor and City Council of the City of Ramsey have the authority to <br />establish volunteer boards and commissions to advise them on matters affecting the City, <br />as detailed in Chapter 2.03 of the City Code. The purpose of this policy is to outline a <br />process for selecting and appointing representatives to City boards and commissions. <br /> <br />Scope: This policy applies to the following advisory bodies established by the City of <br />Ramsey: Economic Development Commission, Fire Board, Horse Care Board, Park and <br />Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, and to the Charter Commission with the <br />exceptions noted in item number 8. <br /> <br />Process: The intent of the process is to ensure that openings on City boards and <br />commissions are publicized to the community at large, that applicants are evaluated <br />objectively and treated fairly and courteously, and that members of boards and <br />commissions are selected on the basis of their qualifications and suitability for the <br />position. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />i <br /> <br />1. Notification of vacancies <br /> <br />When a vacancy on a board or commission occurs, the staff liaison to the commission <br />will notify the Administrative Services Manager who will prepare a detailed notice of <br />position availability for publication in the City newsletter and the City's official <br />newspaper, for posting on public bulletin boards and dissemination to local civic <br />organizations. <br /> <br />The application deadline will be no less than two weeks after the date of publication or <br />posting. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />2. New applicants <br /> <br />New applicants for vacancies on City boards and commissions are required to submit a <br />letter of interest specifying the position being applied for; name, address and phone <br />number of the applicant; and a description of interest, experience or qualifications relative <br />to the position. Resumes are welcome, but not required. <br /> <br />3. Evaluation Process <br /> <br />I <br />! <br />I <br /> <br />a. Evaluation panel <br /> <br />The evaluation panel for City board and commission applications is comprised of <br />the chair and vice-chair of the applicable board or commission, two members of <br />the Personnel Committee of the City Council, and the Administrative Services <br />Manager. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br /> <br />
