Chairperson Bawden asked what the other signs were advertising. Ms. Frolik stated that the other <br />two signs were advertisements for the Dubats Building and the occupants of the building.' <br /> <br />Commissioner Holland qucstioned ifHolm's Super Bowl, Inc. could be incorporated into the ex/sting <br />Dabat's signs. Ms. Prolik explained that Mr. Dubat's signs were located on Riverda/e Drive. <br /> <br />Commissioner Deemer stated that when the original s~gn was put in place, there was no structure on <br />the lot. <br /> <br />COmmissioner Jensen asked if there was an existing sign located on the sight. Mr. Holm gxplained <br />that there was a neon light located on the building that was not visible to Highway #10. Mr. Holm <br />stated that he was aware that this request was pr~eclent setting, but he felt that they needed erx-posure <br />to I-1]ghway #10 to attract a better clientele. <br /> <br />Ms. Frolik aked ifa 25 foot sign would be viable from Highway #10. Mr. Holm explained that it <br />would not. Ms. ~Frolik asked how high the sign would have to be for visibility from Highway #10. <br />Commissioner Holland asked how high the sign could be according to City Code. Ms. Fmlik <br />ex~ained that the sign could be 25 feet in height and the building structure could be 35 feet in height. <br /> <br />Commiss/oner Thomd asked how the old sign would compare irt size to the new sign being proposed. <br />Ms. Frolik stated that she did not have that information at this time. Mr. Holm distributed a drawing <br />o£the new' sign, and ~stimated that the old sign was approxhmxtely 96'square feet. <br /> <br />Commissioner Deemer explained that the property immediately west of Holm's Super Bowl, Inc., will <br />be developed into a commercial shopping center. He suggested incorporating into the ~.hopping <br />center sign, a ir would be a better location. Commissioner Deemer stated that he was reluctant to <br />put th~ sign on the Dubat's property, in consideration of City 8ta~s recommendation. Ms. Frolik <br />explained that by inc6rporating Holm's Super Bowl, Inc. into the shopping center sign, the Planning <br />Commission would be approving off-site advertising. <br /> <br />Mr. Holm stated that he polled the commercial and residential neighbors, and there were no <br />objections. He added that he would like to be a good neighbor. <br /> <br />The Planning Commiss{on proceeded to review the Findings or,act. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Deemer and seconded by Commissioner HolIand to accept # 1 through # 15 <br />as presented. <br /> <br />Motion can/ed. Voting Yes: Chairperson Bawden, Commissioners Deemer, Holland, /ensen, <br />LaDue, Terry, and Thorud. Voting No: None. Absent: None. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Holland and seconded by CommissiOner Deemer to amend #16 to indicate <br />that the proposed sign will not substantially impair the use of market value of su_rrounding properties. <br /> <br />Planning Commission/September 3, lP96 <br /> Page 8 of 14 <br /> <br /> <br />
