Motion carded. Voting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Councilmembers Peterson, Beahen, Beyer and
Zimmerman. Voting No: None.

Case #16: Adopt Ordinance Renaming Uranium Street Northwest to Unity Street
Northwest in. Business Park 95 Addition

City Administrator Schroeder explained that this is the second reading of an ordinance renaming
Uranium Street tO Unity Street in Business Park 95 Addition. He reminded Council that the
request came from Trend Scientific, a company that makes medical testing kits for clinical use and
the repackaging of medical products for distribution. Council agreed that this type of business may
be adversely affected with a Uranium Street address. Trend is the only property that wilt be
affected by this change.

Motion by Councilmember Beahen and seconded by Councilmember Peterson to adopt Ordinance
~:96-13 changing the name. of Uranium Street NW to Unity Street NW in Business Park 95
Addition.

A roll call vote was performed by the Recording Secretary as follows:

Councilmember Beyer: aye
Councilmember Peterson: aye
Mayor Hardin: aye
Councilmember Zimmerman: aye
Councilmember Beahen: aye

Motion carried.

Doug Fountain, 15255 Garnet Street NW, R'amsey, stated that this is a personal whim of a
property owner who feels a street name will negatively impact his business. He could see no
connection. Our Planning Commission and City Councils in the past have wrestled with cul-de-
sacs, short streets, etc. and we put up with it because of the topography. Would you grant me a
personal request to rename my cul-de-sac? He felt this action was utterly preposterous.

Mayor Hardin stated that Council has approved street name changes in the past.

City Engineer Jankowski reported that name changes have been done in North Fork at the request
of the developer, and some in other areas to avoid confusion with similar named streets.

Mr. Fountain stated he was made aware by Councilmember Zimmerman that this did start in other
developments. He reiterated that it is utterly preposterous.

Case #17: Consider Adoption of T.H. #47 Corridor Study

City Engineer Jankowski stated that in the fall of 1995, the City initiated a corridor study along
T.H. #47 in response to concerns raised over existing congestion, and increasing traffic caused by
development. Along with the City, both MnDOT and Anoka County participated in the .study.
Concerns of the people on T.H. #47 were dealt with and now we are asking for a formal adoption
of the study.

Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to adopt the T.H.
#47 Corridor Study as a component of the City's Comprehensive Plan.

City Council/August 13, 1996

I

i

I
I
I
