2) City Council regular meeting minutes dated September 12, 1995

COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1: Ramsey Business Newsletter

Chairperson Wagner reported that thc EDC has been working toward the possibility of
publishing a business newsletter for the local businesses. The newsletter would include
information on continuing education, new businesses, loan and grant programs, road
construction, City projects, housing opportunities, etc. The cost would be approximately
$110 per issue; therefore, the annual cost would be under $500.

Couneilmember Beahen felt the newsletter is a great idea and added that feedback she's
received from businesses is that they would like to know "what's going on in the City".

Chairperson Wagner inquired if anyone present has any suggestions on how to come up
with a positive business association. Ramsey has no central downtown area; we wouk
like to get more identity for local businesses.

Commissioner Ullen inquired if the businesses would be allowed to contribute articles f
the newsletter.

Economic Development Coordinator Gromberg replied it is possible and offered that:
EDC will look at the newsletter at the meeting the month before with the final edito:'
control being taken care of by the City Administrator and himqelf (Gromberg). He add:
that ground breakings of new businesses would be published in this newsletter also.

City Administrator Schroeder commehted that existing businesses will aisc be included
articles as well as a business to business informational line.

Councilmember Peterson pointed out that the same criteria as for the Ramsey Resider
would have to be used so this newsletter does not become "political".

Councilmember Zimmerman suggestext featuring a business a month.

Chairperson Wagner added that a business roster could be published indicating what~ eac.~
business does. ,

Couneilmember Z~mmerman inquired how this would be different from the Chamber c
Commerce.

Chairperson Wagner replied that not everyone belongs to the Chamber of Commerce ar
there really is not a "Ramsey wing". This newsletter could be the way to get Rams.
businesses together.

Mr. Gromberg added that this could be a way to 'start developing a "sense of communig
If there was a "downtown" area, the Chamber would work okay.

Mayor Hardin felt this newsletter is a good idea and suggested asldng for special inter
items.

Commissioner Ullen felt this newsletter would be a good introduction to the City.

Economic Development Commission/City Council/November 2, 1995
