Discusslon ensued relating to ~ Cities Cable TV going out to thc businesses also to
conduct !"camera tours".

Council!authorized the development of the Ramsey Business Newsletter.
Case g~: Ramsey Business Expo and Business Appreciation Day Recap

Chairpe~tson Wagner reported that, based upon the success of the Business Expo and the
Busincs.~ Appreciation Day, the Commission is able to present a check to the Council in thc
amount Iof $713. This amount reflects the funds remaining from thc Business Expo
donatiott and from the Business Appreciation Day. The breakdown is as follows: $494.49
from thd Expo and $218.51 from the Business Appreciation Day.
Mayor ~ardin inquired if thc EDC was satisfied with the results of combining the Business
Expo w~hr~ the Lions Community Picnic.
Mr. Gro~nberg replied that it worked well combining it as there was a better turnout.

ChairperSon Wagner pointed out that thc EDC had a lot of trouble getting people to sign up
to participate in thc Expo. There was a lot of people at the picnic but not a lot of business
displays.

Commi~ioner Kent suggested that the perception of a "tent" was a concern to people until
they saW~ how large it was. He felt that there would be more participation next year.

Conam~ioner Ullcn proposed incorporating into next year's brochures, some of the
photographs taken at this year's event.
Case #it: Items for Discussion

A) Future Issues to be Ad~l'ressed by the EDC
B) Open House for Businesses at City Hall and Quarterly Luncheon
C) Marketing Plan for City Property

Chairpe~on Wagner asked Council for direction on future issues to be addressed by the
EDC.._~e asked "where do you see us. We are not always sure we are doing what the City
Council Wants us to do. We would like to see more direction as far as what it is you want
us to b~ ~loing".

Councfl~cmber Peterson suggested that one of thc things Council has talked about is that
thc Fircl Department would like to become more knowledgeable about businesses,
cspcciall~t in dcaling with hazardous materials. A good relationship between businesses
and the Fire Department should be encouraged as that could result in better service.

Mr. Schioe~cr explained that, up to this point, the Fire Departmen~ has been getting into
businesses as they have the opportunity. With new businesses, when the certificate of
occupancy is given, notice of that goes to the Fire Chief and the Police Chief.

Council~ ember Beyer added that thc Fire Department is also looking at some software to
have all ~c information in their computer such as the facility layout, who thc key holdcrs
are, etc.;

Consensps was that this issue needs to be addressed. It was suggested that this would be a
great item in the newsletter.

EcOi~omic Development Commission/Cit_v Council/No~ember 2. 1995
