PURPOSE OF THE FACILITY <br /> <br /> The Minnesota Sports Federation conducts over 150 youth and adult tournaments and <br /> special events on an annual basis. The majority of these tournaments are outdoor <br /> softball tournaments scattered at various sites throughout the state of Minnesota. In <br /> addition the Sports Federation sponsors a large number of indoor basketball and <br /> volleyball tournaments as well as clinics and schools. Finding indoor facilities of <br /> sufficient size, without prohibitive costs continues to be a problem to meet its <br /> tournament schedule and educational offerings. ' <br /> <br /> The Board of Directors has determined to develop the sports complex adjacent to the <br /> Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area to serve as the primary home base for Minnesota <br /> Sports Federation's tournament schedUle. This level of activity, the large 'number of <br /> tournaments, and the nUmber of participants and spectators, clearly 'justifies this new <br /> complex. The Minnesota Sports Federation would like to seek participation from an <br /> area community to complete this project. . <br /> <br /> PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />The anticipated 10 acre site is eXpected to include one large facility of 48,000 square <br />feet which would house eight indoor volleyball courts, foUr basketball coUrts, offices, <br />locker rooms,, concessions space,, and meeting rooms for the Sports Federation. In. <br />addition a second phase would be a "bubble dome"' that would be cOnstrUcted of <br />Sufficient size to accommodate soccer, touch football,' softball, and sPorts SPecific <br />training.. The. outdoor, adjacent acreage WOuld be dedicated` to parking, sand <br />volleyball, and a fiVe field softball/baseball comPlex. In'addition, the Sports <br />Federation anticipates .an. outdoor meeting/picnic area 'immediatelY adjacent to the <br />softball fields. ..... ,' "' <br /> <br />The'Sports Federation has conducted a preliminary cost. estimate and anticipates that <br />the total construction and equiPment cost would be approximately $2,300,000. <br /> <br />The facility would house the ongoing administrative Offices of the Minnesota sports <br />Federation and its eight member staff. The majority of Minnesota Sports. Federation's <br />indoor tournaments would be' conducted' at the site and it.-would additiOnally be <br />available in a cooperative approach with the local community to further enhance the <br />local community edUcation and athletic programs. <br /> <br />Minnesota 'SPorts FederatiOn anticipates selecting a Site by March 1, 1996 and eXpects <br />to initiate construction by apProximately June 15, 1996. 'On this basis the indoor <br />facility, would be available for basketball, volleyball, touch football, softball, and <br />soccer beginning in September/October 1996.
